Cabin Fever

Cash,  and I are getting the worst case of cabin fever. The recent ice storm has made it a little bit difficult to get around.  I hope Cash doesn't create the desire to become a figure skater - do you know what it would cost to send him to the Winter Olympics?

Happy New Year

Cash the mule has made some New Year's resolutions:

  • to buck only when necessary
  • to load into the trailer every time - night or day
  • to be brave when my owner leaves me on the trail - out of sight - while she clears away brush
  • to always wake up on the right side of my pasture so I can always be cheery.

RIDERS OF THE CORN

Latigo Laura and I cut trail in Eolia, Missouri.  The river was down today so Cash the mule did not need his life preserver.  Cash is ground tying nicely and waiting patiently while I clear brush on the trail and move large branches.  I can tell he is putting a lot of thought into our afternoon rides and figuring things out.  He no longer bolts when a branch falls on his head during our pruning sessions.  I can now advance my position and take the title of "Head Pruner."   We made good time on cutting trail, so we crossed

the river and rode through the dry-picked corn field.  Cowboy the paint horse was hopping around like a pogo stick.  Cash the mule was leaping from row to row looking for an escape route. He was just sure there were lions, tigers and bears stalking us in that corn field. Latigo Laura proclaimed, "WE ARE RIDERS OF THE CORN!"  And we are.

New York City Is A State of Mind

If my mule went to New York City, I wonder what he would think? I know he would not like the sirens, the honking and the never ending streets.  He would not be mindful when crossing the busy intersection and he would not keep a fast pace.  He would not care to go to all the popular clubs either, even though the whole grain taco chips are free.  No, Cash is not concerned in making a name for himself in the Big Apple.  He is able to do that right now in the comfort of his very own corral.

In Cash's mind, New York City is nothing more than a state of mind.
